Acculturating Immigrants

Food, along with when, how often, and the way in which it is cooked and eaten, is a part of culture. Immigrant parents of children born or raised in this country often find their children are more interested in "American" food than in the foods from their country of origin. For immigrant women from cultures where self-esteem is linked to their ability to cook, learning to prepare the food that their children are asking for enhances their self-esteem while acquainting them with that aspect of culture concerned with food.
