Reducing Gender Stereotyping
As in teaching, where men have traditionally held the role of the higher-paid and more respected professor while women have been more often relegated to the role of elementary school teacher, cooking has long been a field where men have held the role of chef while women have been more often relegated to the position of salad "girl."
Teaching girls cooking from a professional approach, particularly when taught by female chefs, demonstrates that they can become chefs while at the same time providing them with the tools to begin their education.
Teaching boys cooking from a professional approach, particularly when taught by male chefs, demonstrates that "domestic" tasks, such as cooking and cleaning, can be done by men while at the same time teaching boys how to do them.
